CECC confirms 4 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from Indonesia, Philippines and Turkey

On October 22, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced four new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those four new cases (Cases#545-548) entered Taiwan from Indonesia, the Philippines, and Turkey.

Case #545 is an Indonesian woman in her 30s. She entered Taiwan for work on October 14. The Indonesian woman showed no symptoms upon arrival. The case experienced a decreased appetite, dizziness, vomiting, and fatigue on October 17. Health authorities then arranged her medical care and COVID-19 testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 22.

Case #546 is a Taiwanese man in his 30s. The case experienced a mild cough, an abnormal sense of smell, and bone pain in his upper body between October 13 and October 17 when working in the Philippines. The case returned to Taiwan from the Philippines on October 20. He voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers that he experienced a loss of sense of smell. He had his specimen collected upon arrival. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 22.

Case #547 is an Indonesian woman in her 30s. The Indonesian woman entered Taiwan for work on October 8. She hasn't experienced any suspected symptoms since arrival. The case underwent a COVID-19 test on October 21 before completing the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 22.

Case #548 is a Filipina in her 30s. She worked in Turkey over the past two years. The case entered Taiwan for work on October 13, and she showed no symptoms upon arrival. Because she developed a runny nose, an abnormal sense of smell and taste, and fatigue during the home quarantine period, she notified health authorities of her symptoms. Health authorities then arranged her medical care and COVID-19 testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 22.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 99,800 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 98,496. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 548 cases. Of the 548 confirmed cases, 456 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; and 1 case has unknown sources of infection. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 497 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 44 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
