On July 28, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced the findings of the investigation into a Thai migrant worker found to have coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) after he returned to Thailand. According to the investigation, the migrant worker is an over 30-year-old male who had visited Taiwan for work in January of 2018. The Thai migrant worker returned to Thailand on July 21, 2020. He developed diarrhea on July 22, but he didn’t have respiratory symptoms, a fever, or an abnormal sense of smell and taste. The migrant worker underwent a COVID-19 PCR test in Thailand and tested positive on July 25. The investigation of health authorities has identified 189 individuals who came into contact with the migrant worker in Taiwan, including 18 persons from his dorm, 11 from his workplace, and 160 employees from the company where he worked.

Health authorities have collected specimens from the 29 contacts from his workplace and dorm. Of the 29 contacts, 28 have tested negative for COVID-19, and one is awaiting the test result. Health authorities have also collected specimens from the 160 employees, and these employees currently have no suspected symptoms.
