On June 20, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 109 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 109 cases, 107 are indigenous and the other two are imported. The CECC also announced 11 deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 107 indigenous cases, 57 are men and the other 50 are women, aged under 5 to over 100 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between June 4 and June 19, 2021. Regarding those indigenous cases, New Taipei City reported most cases, at 44, and Taipei City had the second highest number, at 31. Taoyuan City reported 16 cases; Taichung City reported 6 cases; Hsinchu County reported 4 cases; Miaoli County reported 3 cases, and Changhua County, Yilan County and Keelung City reported 1 each.

Regarding the 11 deaths announced today, they were five men and six women between 40 and 99 years old.

Regarding the two imported cases, Case #14020 is an over 20-year-old male from the Philippines. He traveled to Taiwan for work on May 13. The result of the COVID-19 test he took on May 27 was negative. He took another COVID-19 test arranged by the company he worked for on June 13, and he tested negative. He was then tested again on June 18. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on June 20.

Case #14072 is a Taiwanese woman in her 20s. She returned to Taiwan from Japan on June 18. She experienced diarrhea, soreness and pain in her muscles and joints, and fatigue on June 19. The health authority then arranged for her to seek medical attention and undergo testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on June 20.

The CECC reported that a total of 1,063,890 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 1,048,326. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 14,005 cases. Of the 14,005 confirmed cases, 1,165 are imported; 12,787 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated; and a cumulative total of 98 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 549 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 549 deaths, 542 are indigenous cases and the other 7 are imported.
