On October 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced four new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those four cases are two males and two females from Indonesia with their ages ranging from 10 to 30 years old. They entered Taiwan for studies on September 30. 

Those four cases have not developed suspected symptoms since arrival. After entry, the four cases underwent quarantine at four different quarantine hotels arranged by their schools. The health authority arranged for them to take a COVID-19 test on October 15 when they completed the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the four cases on October 16 (the CT values for their tests were between 27 and 36, and they are awaiting antibody test results).  

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 98,355 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 96,969. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 535 cases. Of the 535 confirmed cases, 443 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; and 1 case has unknown sources of infection. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 491 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 37 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
