CECC confirms 14 more COVID-19 cases, including 12 domestic cases and 2 imported cases

On August 2, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 14 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 14 new cases, 12 are domestic and the other two are imported. The CECC reported no deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 12 domestic cases (of whom, six tested positive while they were in home isolation or completed their isolation period), 10 are men and the other two are women, aged between 10 to 79 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between July 29 and July 31, 2021. Regarding those domestic cases, Taoyuan City reported the most cases, at 5, and New Taipei City had the second highest number, at 3. Taipei City reported 2 cases, and Keelung City and Kaohsiung City reported 1 case each.

Regarding the two new imported cases, Case #15805 is a Taiwanese male in his 60s. He returned to Taiwan from Thailand on July 18. He was tested on July 31 before completing the quarantine period, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 2.

Case #15806 is a Taiwanese female in her 30s. She returned to Taiwan from the US on July 30. She was tested for COVID-19 at the airport, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 2.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,078,019 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,060,458. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,702 cases. Of the 15,702 confirmed cases, 1,271 are imported; 14,378 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 108 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 789 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 789 deaths, 781 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
