CECC confirms 85,761 more COVID-19 cases, including 85,720 domestic cases and 41 imported cases

On May 20, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 85,761 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 85,761 new cases, 85,720 are domestic and 41 are imported (27 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced 49 deaths today.

Regarding the 85,720 new domestic cases, 40,942 are male and 44,744 are female, while the gender of the other 34 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years.

Of those domestic cases, 23,704 were reported in New Taipei City, 11,684 in Taoyuan City, 11,414 in Taipei City, 7,144 in Taichung City, 7,525 in Kaohsiung City, 4,707 in Tainan City, 2,762 in Hsinchu County, 2,045 in Keelung City, 2,341 in Changhua County, 2,201 in Yilan County, 2,270 in Pingtung County, 1,708 in Hsinchu City, 1,282 in Miaoli County, 1,187 in Hualien County, 1,009 in Yunlin County, 730 in Nantou County, 650 in Taitung County, 679 in Chiayi County, 366 in Chiayi City, 169 in Penghu County, 131 in Kinmen County, and 12 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 49 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 28 men and 21 women ranging in age from between 30 to 99 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 41 new imported cases, they were 17 men and 24 women ranging in age from between 10 to 69 years. All cases are being investigated. They all arrived between February 10 and May 19, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 10,063,654 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,904,378. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1,156,291 cases. Of the 1,156,291 confirmed cases, 12,432 are imported; 1,143,805 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 1,284 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 1,284 deaths, 1,269 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
