First Lady hugged children with AIDS to express warm feelings and concern

On October 31st, the eve of the Halloween, First Lady Chow Mei-ching was invited to be the special guest of the party “Angels of Love” hold by the Center for Disease Control in order to express care and concern to people suffering from AIDS and supports to AIDS control campaigns. Hung Jia Jun, Taipei county councilor, Wan-wan, a famous illustrator of children’s books, Wu Juan Yu, a sex columnist and Lan Xuan, a senior media specialist were also invited to the party for the foster children with AIDS.

Staff members of “Harmony Home Association” and “Garden of Mercy Foundation” led a few tens of foster children with AIDS to attend the party. Children put on their cute costumes and played happily without worries. Their innocent smiles touched everyone’s heart. First Lady Chow Mei-ching kindly hugged every child and encouraged them. The party held in a warm atmosphere was a success.

Chang Li Shu, president of the Garden of Mercy Foundation, expressed in the party that Taiwan provided highest care and support for AIDS affected people. The government offered free combined drug “cocktail” for AIDS patients, AIDS tests for pregnant women and plan of reducing injuries from AIDS. Being a staff member of an AIDS support organization, Chang showed her approval and appreciation of the government’s policies and actions.

In the party, Wan-wan, a famous illustrator of children’s books, unveiled her recent work, “A Notebook of Love: Power of Care and Hug”, for the first time. In her unique style, Wan-wan depicted the situation of AIDS victims and urged the society to express more accepting and sympathy. First Lady signed on these books and sent them to the AIDS support organizations as gifts in order to show gratitude for their long-term effort devoted to the people with AIDS in Taiwan.
