As the number of pandemic influenza A (H1N1) cases increases, the market demand for antibacterial products and disinfectants increases. The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) has received a growing number of inquiries concerning the effectiveness of the influenza A (H1N1) products available in the market. Therefore, Taiwan CDC has asked the Institute of Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (IBMI) to establish an accelerated inspection mechanism for disease control products such as antibacterial products and disinfectants in order to ensure the health and safety of the people in Taiwan.
Through the establishment of an accelerated inspection mechanism for disease control products, the authorities will expedite inspections of disease control products as necessary. If a disease control product does not meet the requirements of an accelerated inspection, an inspection committee formed by experts in public health, epidemiology, and clinical prevention of major illness will determine the technicality, effectiveness, safety, and quality of the product.A certificate will be awarded to a product that passes the inspection, which will serve as a reference for consumers.
Currently, IBMI is working on 24 applications of product inspection referred by Taiwan CDC, including 4 photocatalytic products, 4 Chinese herbal medicine products, 3 ozone- and chlorine dioxide-based products, 2 cleaning liquids, 2 pathogen detection kits, 2 air cleaning equipments, 2 nano antibacterial products, gloves, thermometer, essential oil products. 10 of those products have entered accelerated inspection since they fulfill the requirements for such examination. The results of the inspection will be made available to the public as soon as possible.
