On January 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 19,970 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 19,970 new cases, 19,658 are domestic and 312 are imported. The CECC announced 30 deaths today.

Regarding the 19,658 new domestic cases, 9,063 are male and 10,584 are female, while the gender of the other 11 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 3,931 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,468 in Kaohsiung City, 2,419 in Taichung City, 2,114 in Taipei City, 1,926 in Taoyuan City, 1,672 in Tainan City, 904 in Changhua County, 543 in Miaoli County, 540 in Hsinchu County, 509 in Hsinchu City, 429 in Yunlin County, 423 in Pingtung County, 323 in Nantou County, 289 in Keelung City, 276 in Chiayi County, 271 in Yilan County, 200 in Hualien County, 177 in Chiayi City, 118 in Taitung County, 71 in Kinmen County, 42 in Penghu County, and 13 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 30 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 12 men and 18 women ranging in age from 50 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 312 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between October 30, 2022, and January 16, 2023.

The CECC reported that a total of 21,283,801 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 12,036,151. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 9,245,066 cases. Of the 9,245,066 confirmed cases, 45,611 are imported; 9,199,401 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 15,903 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 15,903 deaths, 15,883 are from domestic cases and the other 20 are from imported cases.
