CECC confirms 6 more imported cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from Indonesia, India, Thailand and the Philippines

On May 4, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced six new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those six new cases arrived in Taiwan from Indonesia (Case #1147 and Case #1150), Thailand (Case #1149), India (Case #1148 and Case #1151) and the Philippines (Case #1152).

Case #1147 is an over 20-year-old male from Indonesia. The Indonesian man traveled to Taiwan to work as a fisherman on April 16. After completing the quarantine period on May 1, he took a self-paid test arranged by the company he worked for; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 4.

Case #1148 is a Taiwanese male in his 60s. He visited India for official business in December 2020, and came into contact with a confirmed case in the country. He returned to Taiwan on May 1. He experienced an abnormal sense of smell on May 2. The health authority then arranged for him to seek medical attention and undergo testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 4 (the CT value was 25).

Case #1149 is a Taiwanese man in his 50s. He returned to Taiwan from Thailand on May 2. He was found to have a fever (38.2°C) at the airport; he was then transported to a hospital and placed in an isolation ward for testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 4 (the CT value was 25).

Case #1150 is an over 30-year-old fisherman from Indonesia. He traveled to Taiwan for work on April 20. He was tested on May 3 before completing the quarantine period, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 4 (the CT value was 34).

Case #1151 is an over 20-year-old man from India. He traveled to Taiwan for studies on April 16. He was tested for COVID-19 on May 3, after completing the quarantine period; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 3 (the CT value was 37).

Case #1152 is an over 20-year-old male migrant worker from the Philippines. The male migrant worker traveled to Taiwan for work on April 20. He was tested on May 3 before completing the quarantine period, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 4.
