CECC notes decline in dengue cases and continues to monitor dengue situation

Since the establishment of the Central Epidemic Command Center for Dengue Epidemic (CECC), the Department of Health (DOH) has allocated 18 million dollars and mobilized 1,083 people per day, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has allocated 20 million dollars and mobilized over 700 people per day to assist local governments in dengue control efforts.Through cross-sector cooperation, the dengue epidemics in Tainan City and Tainan County are on decline and the dengue epidemic in Kaohsiung County has been brought under control.Further, the number of dengue cases reported in areas that are more seriously affected by the epidemic in Kaohsiung City has also decreased.CECC will continue to monitor the dengue situation and implement the existing measures against dengue.

Between August and November 21, 2010, a total of 1216 indigenous cases have been confirmed in Taiwan, including 708 cases in Kaohsiung City, 339 cases in Tainan City, 98 cases in Tainan County, 45 cases in Kaohsiung County, 15 cases in Taipei County, 6 cases in Pingtung County, 2 cases in Taipei City, 1 case in Taoyuan County, 1 case in Hsinchu County, and 1 case in Jiayi County.This year, a cumulative total of 15 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever have been reported, including 2 deaths.The peak of the dengue epidemic occurred in week 42.Over the past few weeks, a slight decrease in the number of cases reported has been noted.Despite the positive development, we are still at the peak of dengue and several sporadic clusters of dengue cases have occurred in southern Taiwan.CECC once again urges the public to continuously clean up vector breeding sites and reduce the number of containers in order to effectively control the epidemic.
