On August 31, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 34,623 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 34,623 new cases, 34,389 are domestic and 234 are imported. The CECC announced 21 deaths today.

Regarding the 34,389 new domestic cases, 15,820 are male and 18,556 are female, while the gender of the other 13 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 7,607 were reported in New Taipei City, 4,332 in Taipei City, 4,100 in Taichung City, 3,780 in Taoyuan City, 2,592 in Kaohsiung City, 2,173 in Tainan City, 1,416 in Changhua County, 1,047 in Hsinchu City, 1,044 in Hsinchu County, 899 in Miaoli County, 801 in Pingtung County, 708 in Yunlin County, 702 in Keelung City, 652 in Hualien County, 614 in Yilan County, 474 in Nantou County, 446 in Chiayi County, 331 in Taitung County, 327 in Chiayi City, 184 in Penghu County, 133 in Kinmen County, and 27 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 21 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 12 men and nine women ranging in age from 30 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 234 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between July 31 and August 30, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 16,187,394 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 10,872,287. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 5,308,029 cases. Of the 5,308,029 confirmed cases, 27,833 are imported; 5,280,142 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 9,914 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 9,914 deaths, 9,898 are from domestic cases and the other 16 are from imported cases.
