Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced the result of antiviral resistance testing performed on the viral specimen collected from the fifth death linked to pandemic influenza A (H1N1) in Taiwan.After testing the viral specimen using sequence analysis, the viral specimen has been confirmed to be Tamiflu-sensitive.According to the latest information published by the World Health Organization (WHO), a total of 12 cases of Tamiflu-resistant pandemic influenza A (H1N1) have been detected in Denmark, Japan, Canada, the United States, China, Singapore, and Hong Kong.All of the aforementioned cases of Tamiflu-reisistant pandemic influenza A (H1N1) infection are individual cases, which did not arise from cluster outbreaks.Hence, the possibility of further transmission is eliminated.In Taiwan, a total of 45 cases of pandemic influenza A (H1N1) infection, including cases with complications, cases with mild symptoms, cases resulted from cluster outbreaks and deaths associated with pandemic influenza A (H1N1) infection, have been analyzed.No Tamiflu resistance has been detected in any of the 45 cases. CECC urges the public to seek immediate medical assistance if influenza-like symptoms develop and follow the doctor’s instructions to complete the whole course of treatment to prevent Tamiflu resistance.
On the other hand, CECC announced the latest pandemic influenza A (H1N1) epidemic update in Taiwan. No new death has occurred.Five new cases have been hospitalized, including a 45-year-old male who resides in northern Taiwan, a 6-year-old boy who resided in central Taiwan, a 9-year-old boy who resided in northern Taiwan, an 18-year-old male who resides in southern Taiwan, a 62-year-old female who resides in eastern Taiwan. A total of 12 cases of pandemic influenza A (H1N1) infection are currently hospitalized for treatment.
