On December 8, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 2 new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those 2 new cases arrived in Taiwan from Indonesia (Case #718) and China (Case #719).

Case #718 is an over 20-year-old female migrant worker from Indonesia. The Indonesian migrant worker came to Taiwan to work on November 23. She hasn't shown any symptoms since arrival. Before completing the quarantine period, she was tested for COVID-19 on December 7, and she tested positive. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 8, and the Ct value was 35.

Case #719 is a Taiwanese man in his 50s. The man traveled back to Taiwan from China on November 22. He showed no symptoms when entering Taiwan. During the home quarantine period, the man developed chills and a fever on December 4. The health authority then arranged for him to seek medical attention and to undergo a COVID-19 test. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 8, and the Ct value of the case was 15.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 112,939 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 111,080. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 718 cases. Of the 718 confirmed cases, 626 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 582 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 129 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
