CECC confirms 3 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from the Philippines

On December 22, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those three new cases arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines.

Case #768 is an over 40-year-old male migrant worker from the Philippines. The Filipino worker came to Taiwan to work on December 7. He hasn't developed any symptoms since arrival. Before completing the quarantine period, he was tested for COVID-19 on December 20. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 22.

Case #769 is an over 30-year-old female migrant worker from the Philippines. The female migrant worker came to Taiwan to work on December 7. She hasn't developed any symptoms since arrival. Before completing the quarantine period, she was tested for COVID-19 on December 20. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 22.

Case #770 is an over 30-year-old Marshall Islands fisherman. The Marshallese fisherman came to Taiwan to work on November 8. He hasn't developed any symptoms since arrival. The male worker was tested for COVID-19 on November 21 before completing the quarantine period, and the test result came back negative. After completing the quarantine period on November 23, he remained on the ship. His employment agency arranged for him to take a self-paid COVID-19 test on December 20. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 22.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 120,351 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 118,248. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 770 cases. Of the 770 confirmed cases, 675 are imported; 56 are indigenous (Case #771); 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 632 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 131 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
