On September 17, 2015, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) for Dengue Outbreak implemented the dengue case classification system. The four hospitals, including the Ministry of Health and Welfare Tainan Hospital, Tainan Municipal Hospital, Tainan Municipal An-Nan Hospital, and Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital Tainan Branch, that are designated as Dengue Treatment Centers would be in charge of treating dengue cases that are classified as Group B patients. In addition, six medical centers and medical officers from the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) will form a medical care advisory committee to advise the hospitals in Tainan City about the appropriate administration of health and medical care services in order to classify, diagnose and treat patients accordingly.
CECC for Dengue Outbreak pointed out that personnel from Taiwan CDC visited the National Cheng Kung University Medical Center and Chi Mei Medical Center to understand their protocols for treating dengue cases and it was noted that the number of visits to the Emergency Room for dengue fever had decreased. On the other hand, the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) has promised that the approved points of medical service provision at the four Dengue Treatment Centers will not be lower than that last year. In addition, when patient volume exceeds available staff, the four Dengue Treatment Centers can call in retired personnel or personnel from other medical facilities to care for additional patients.
