The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) rebuts a recent claim that “Tamiflu is effective at preventing MERS-CoV and sold out due to hoarding”. Taiwan CDC once again stresses that the current treatment for individuals with MERS is supportive care as no vaccine or specific drug is currently available. In addition, no antiviral drugs such as Tamiflu and Relenza have been proven to be effective against MERS-CoV. Taiwan CDC urges the public not to listen to rumors, not to believe rumors, and not to spread rumors. Furthermore, the public is urged against buying prescription drugs on their own or hoarding Tamiflu and to seek prompt medical attention to ensure timely treatment and their own health.
