On June 13, 2009, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced seven newly confirmed cases of influenza A (H1N1) in Taiwan, making the number of confirmed cases to date 44.All seven cases were imported from Thailand.CECC has reported the cases to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Three of the newly confirmed cases were classmates who went on a graduation trip to Thailand with the thirty-third case. The other four cases have all been to Thailand with a tour group.All the seven cases have been isolated for treatment.Their close contacts who have not experience any symptoms have all been asked to conduct self-health management.
On the other hand, people have reported through the Communicable Disease Reporting and Consultation Hotline, 1922, and the Anti-Fraud Hotline, 165, about receiving calls from illegal organization claiming they were calling from the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control concerning the implementation of self-health management and provision of assistance to seek medical attention and Tamiflu for influenza treatment as an attempt to collect personal information such as I.D. number, date of birth, and annual income.
CECC reminds the general public that a public health unit/officer does not ask a case to voluntarily provide personal information such as I.D. number, date of birth and annual income when conducting contact tracing.Further, the person being contacted by a public health unit/officer should inquire the name of the unit and the name of the officer.When in doubt, call 1922.If you suspect fraud, call the Anti-Fraud Hotline, 165.
