On January 3, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 25 new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the 25 new imported cases, they are nine men and 16 women, aged between under five to 79 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from the US (15 cases), Turkey (four cases), Germany, Canada, Italy, the Philippines, Armenia, and Trinidad and Tobago. They arrived between December 19, 2021, and January 1, 2022.

Additionally, the two imported cases (Cases #17058 and #17099) announced on December 28 and December 30 have been reclassified as domestic cases after investigations, and the two cases are found to be linked to Case #17085.

The CECC reported that a total of 4,982,263 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 4,962,860. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 17,095 cases. Of the 17,095 confirmed cases, 2,439 are imported; 14,602 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 111 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 850 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 850 deaths, 838 are from domestic cases and the other 12 are from imported cases.
