CECC confirms 18,218 more COVID-19 cases, including 17,869 domestic cases and 349 imported cases

On January 20, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 18,218 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 18,218 new cases, 17,869 are domestic and 349 are imported. The CECC announced 61 deaths today.

Regarding the 17,869 new domestic cases, 8,153 are male and 9,705 are female, while the gender of the other 11 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 3,712 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,179 in Kaohsiung City, 2,121 in Taoyuan City, 1,976 in Taipei City, 1,893 in Taichung City, 1,529 in Tainan City, 734 in Changhua County, 505 in Hsinchu County, 499 in Hsinchu City, 414 in Miaoli County, 356 in Pingtung County, 335 in Keelung City, 311 in Yunlin County, 293 in Yilan County, 252 in Nantou County, 205 in Hualien County, 193 in Chiayi County, 141 in Chiayi City, 100 in Taitung County, 65 in Kinmen County, 40 in Penghu County, and 16 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 61 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 35 men and 26 women ranging in age from 30 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 349 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between December 20, 2022, and January 19, 2023.

The CECC reported that a total of 21,363,491 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 12,058,303. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 9,302,697 cases. Of the 9,302,697 confirmed cases, 46,534 are imported; 9,256,109 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 16,038 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 16,038 deaths, 16,018 are from domestic cases and the other 20 are from imported cases.
