Although influenza A (H1N1) infection has been recently identified in pigs, the priority for pandemic influenza A (H1N1) vaccination remains the same as previously announced. In light of the growing number of countries where influenza A (H1N1) virus has been detected in pigs, on November 5, 2009, the World Health Organization announced that the risk of contracting influenza A (H1N1) virus through eating pork is low if thoroughly cooked.

The Communication Disease Reporting and Consultation Hotline, 1922, has recently received complaints for not including more people as the targeted groups for pandemic influenza A (H1N1) vaccination.CECC once again stressed that the list of targeted groups and priority for pandemic influenza A (H1N1) vaccination have been decided and finalized by vaccine experts, taking everyone’s best interest into consideration, to maximize herd immunity. Therefore, CECC will not make changes to the finalized list of targeted groups and priority for pandemic influenza A (H1N1) vaccination.
