On July 2, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 58 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 58 new cases, 57 are indigenous and the other one is imported. The CECC also announced 15 deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 57 indigenous cases, 25 are men and the other 32 are women, aged between under 5 to 99 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between June 22 and July 1, 2021. Regarding those indigenous cases, Taipei City reported most cases, at 29, and New Taipei City had the second highest number, at 15. Hsinchu County reported 4 cases; Taoyuan City and Keelung City reported 3 cases each; Taichung City reported 2 cases, and Hsinchu City reported 1 case.

Regarding the 15 deaths announced today, they were eight men and seven women between 40 and 89 years old.

Regarding the new imported case, Case #14975 is a Taiwanese female in her 50s. She returned to Taiwan from Hungary on June 28. When she was in quarantine, she applied to leave her quarantine location for a funeral on July 1. The health authority then arranged for her to take a self-paid COVID-19 test at a hospital, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 2.

The CECC reported that a total of 1,411,572 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 1,395,446. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 14,911 cases. Of the 14,911 confirmed cases, 1,176 are imported; 13,682 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 103 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 676 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 676 deaths, 668 are indigenous cases and the other 8 are imported.
