On January 28, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 71 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 71 new cases, 27 are domestic and 44 are imported. The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the domestic cases, they are eight men and 19 women, aged between under ten and 69 years old.

Regarding the 44 new imported cases, they are 25 men and 19 women, aged between under five and 79 years. 36 of them arrived in Taiwan from the US (eight cases), the Philippines (eight cases), China (five cases), Indonesia (three cases), Japan (two cases), Sweden (two cases), Vietnam (two cases), Bangladesh, the Netherlands, Turkey, the UK, Austria, and Denmark; the areas where the remaining eight cases arrived are being investigated. They all arrived between January 13 and January 27, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 5,613,922 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 5,594,976. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 18,634 cases. Of the 18,634 confirmed cases, 3,561 are imported; 15,019 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 126 cases (three newly added; one imported and two domestic cases were removed after testing negative the second time) have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 851 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 851 deaths, 838 are from domestic cases and the other 13 are from imported cases.
