The first case of influenza A (H1N1) was confirmed in Hong Kong on May 1, 2009.Based on various factors such as the symptoms of the case and the flight time, the Central Epidemic Command Center(CECC) has considered that the in-flight risk of transmission ofinfluenza A (H1N1) to be low. However, to further reduce the possible risk of transmission of the virus, passengers on the same flight with the patient, flight MU505 that departed from Shanghai at 10am on April 30, 2009 and arrived in Hong Kong at 12:35pm on the same day, are urged to voluntarily report themselves to the Taiwan CDC through the Hotline, 1922.In addition, those passengers should also observe their own health, conduct home quarantine, and measure body temperature once in the morning and once at night for a period of seven days.If influenza-like symptoms such as fever and cough develop in the next two to three days, please contact the health authorities and refrain from seeking medical care without the help of the health authorities.
The CECC indicated that they had been actively obtaining the list of passengers on flight MU505 from the relevant authorities as an attempt to closely monitor the outbreak. On the other hand, according to the Infectious Disease Centre in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong authorities have taken the necessary actions in response to the first confirmed case of influenza A (H1N1) in Hong Kong.As of now, no signs of secondary transmission or spread have been observed. Therefore, the Infectious Disease Centre in Hong Kong stated that no necessary quarantine measures should be required of travelers from Hong Kong unless when new development on the outbreak became available. The CECC urged travelers from Taiwan who had stayed at the Metropark Hotel to cooperate with the local authorities and contact Chung Hwa Travel Service for further assistance when necessary.
