On August 9, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 23,669 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 23,669 new cases, 23,458 are domestic and 211 are imported. The CECC announced 18 deaths today.

Regarding the 23,458 new domestic cases, 10,867 are male and 12,553 are female, while the gender of the other 38 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 4,135 were reported in New Taipei City, 3,063 in Taichung City, 2,617 in Taipei City, 2,248 in Kaohsiung City, 2,151 in Taoyuan City, 1,834 in Tainan City, 1,133 in Changhua County, 719 in Miaoli County, 712 in Yunlin County, 683 in Pingtung County, 590 in Hsinchu County, 512 in Hsinchu City, 490 in Yilan County, 489 in Chiayi County, 416 in Nantou County, 411 in Hualien County, 330 in Keelung City, 290 in Chiayi City, 280 in Taitung County, 192 in Penghu County, 155 in Kinmen County, and eight in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 18 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were nine men and nine women ranging in age from under five to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 211 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between July 11 and August 8, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 15,202,492 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 10,418,120. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 4,777,903 cases. Of the 4,777,903 confirmed cases, 22,172 are imported; 4,755,677 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 9,273 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 9,273 deaths, 9,258 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
