CECC confirms 19,073 more COVID-19 cases, including 18,965 domestic cases and 108 imported cases

On December 23, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 19,073 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 19,073 new cases, 18,965 are domestic and 108 are imported. The CECC announced 40 deaths today.

Regarding the 18,965 new domestic cases, 8,550 are male and 10,394 are female, while the gender of the other 21 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 3,850 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,451 in Taichung City, 2,230 in Taoyuan City, 2,125 in Taipei City, 2,003 in Kaohsiung City, 1,558 in Tainan City, 810 in Changhua County, 645 in Hsinchu County, 563 in Hsinchu City, 389 in Miaoli County, 381 in Pingtung County, 374 in Yunlin County, 260 in Chiayi County, 251 in Nantou County, 238 in Yilan County, 232 in Keelung City, 202 in Hualien County, 148 in Chiayi City, 103 in Taitung County, 80 in Kinmen County, 65 in Penghu County, and seven in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 40 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 24 men and 16 women ranging in age from 40 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 108 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between October 1 and December 22, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 20,556,844 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,892,283. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 8,663,616 cases. Of the 8,663,616 confirmed cases, 39,246 are imported; 8,624,316 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 15,039 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 15,039 deaths, 15,022 are from domestic cases and the other 17 are from imported cases.
