Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) recently announced the agency’s cooperation with eight hospitals to offer outpatient service in travel medicine in order to cater the public’s various needs and interests for travel health.Meanwhile, the newest edition of the “Travelers' Health” web page is now available on the Taiwan CDC’s brand new website launched this year.The new “Travelers’ Health” webpage includes several new sections, and the new sections include:
1. International outbreaks: This section provides daily updated, important international epidemic information identified from official sources, health organizations or highly reliable media.
2. Travel health information, health advices, and information for specific groups: This section provides information on common travel-related communicable diseases and prophylaxis, and offers downloadable reference leaflets and guidance short films as well.
3. Vaccine, vaccination sites, and prescription: This section includes introductions to vaccination and prophylactic treatment for international travel.
4. Statistics of imported cases: This section shows lists of confirmed cases who acquired infection overseas.
5. Related links: This section lists local and international useful websites concerning travel health and travel medicine.
Among the abovementioned sections, the section on international outbreak is updated on a daily basis.In addition, the public can make use of miscellaneous functions available on the web page to learn more about international epidemics by clicking on the map, entering key words (in either Chinese or English) of country’s denomination or the category of diseases, and setting the time interval to search for the latest international epidemic information.Furthermore, the location of the country of interest can also be displayed on the map at the same time.Prior to traveling abroad, the public is encouraged to browse through the related health information for the travel destination available on the internet to ensure their own health.For more information, please visit the Taiwan CDC website (http://www.cdc.gov.tw) and look under “Travelers' Health”, or dial the toll-free consultation hotline, 1922, operated by Taiwan CDC.
