CECC confirms 16,911 more COVID-19 cases, including 16,669 domestic cases and 242 imported cases

On August 22, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 16,911 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 16,911 new cases, 16,669 are domestic and 242 are imported. The CECC announced 23 deaths today.

Regarding the 16,669 new domestic cases, 7,728 are male and 8,937 are female, while the gender of the other four cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 3,470 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,087 in Taoyuan City, 1,984 in Taipei City, 1,832 in Taichung City, 1,300 in Kaohsiung City, 1,082 in Tainan City, 687 in Changhua County, 529 in Hsinchu County, 505 in Miaoli County, 467 in Hsinchu City, 424 in Pingtung County, 355 in Yunlin County, 318 in Yilan County, 292 in Keelung City, 276 in Nantou County, 273 in Hualien County, 272 in Chiayi County, 177 in Chiayi City, 168 in Taitung County, 86 in Penghu County, 83 in Kinmen County, and two in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 23 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 13 men and 10 women ranging in age from under five to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 242 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between July 22 and August 21, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 15,747,055 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 10,679,098. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 5,060,178 cases. Of the 5,060,178 confirmed cases, 25,311 are imported; 5,034,813 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 9,657 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 9,657 deaths, 9,641 are from domestic cases and the other 16 are from imported cases.
