Winners of the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) competition, “On The Move Against TB”, have been announced.Topping the list among the school-based entries was the“Post-It Girl”.Garnering the second-place in the school category was “You and Me Together Fighting TB”, followed by “TB Cinema” in the third-place.Winning entries in the individual category integrated TB awareness and educational messages into an online game, an original song and school-issued “assignment notebook”.

In keeping with the theme of the World Health Organization’s 2010 TB campaign, “Innovate To Accelerate Action”, Taiwan CDC kicked off the “On The Move Against TB” competition in March. Two entry categories were opened, allowing both school entries and individual entries.Themes included early diagnosis of TB, the importance of prescription adherence, supporting and encouraging TB patients, and mobilizing citizens to fight TB.Both school groups and individuals showed their enthusiasm for the contest and some 508 entries were received. This demonstrates that the “On The Move” campaign has infiltrated not only schools but other parts of the society as well.

All of the received entries were quite innovative. The winning school-based entry came from third-year students at the Nursing Department of Yuanpei University. The Yuanpei entry turned Post-It notes into tools that could remind TB patients to take their prescribed drugs, see their physician and take care of their general health. The Post-It Girl submission won high praise for demonstrating both innovation and genuine concern for TB patients and TB control.Second-year students at the Graphics Arts Communication Department of National Taichung Industrial High School took home second-place honors with their submission, “You and Me Together Fighting TB”.Their music-video entry combined the group’s original dance moves with music and included several key TB-control messages. Third-place honors were claimed by third-year students at the Business Administration Department of National Yunlin University of Science and Technology.Their entry, “TB Cinema”, was a black-and-white cartoon that taught the importance of self-care in early detection of TB.

Mr. Chang took home first-place honors in the individual category with his online game that tested players’ knowledge about TB.The second place, among individual entries, was claimed by Mr. Li, who shot a video featuring a song—composed by local celebrities—with important TB messages.Ms. Zeng won the third place for her idea of including TB educational messages in “assignment notebook” issued by elementary schools to students, thus crystalizing these important messages from an early age.

In addition to choosing winners in the school and individual categories, Taiwan CDC will also award an iPhone to one lucky winner. The first 20 entries in the Forum Sticky activity and the top 50 in TB Quickdraw online game will also receive copies of the novel “Chasing Down Clues”.A complete list of winners and details are available at the “On The Move Against TB” website (http://www.2010TB.com.tw).
