CECC confirms 22,397 more COVID-19 cases, including 22,137 domestic cases and 260 imported cases

On August 21, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 22,397 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 22,397 new cases, 22,137 are domestic and 260 are imported. The CECC announced 26 deaths today.

Regarding the 22,137 new domestic cases, 10,093 are male and 12,041 are female, while the gender of the other three cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 4,852 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,618 in Taipei City, 2,556 in Taichung City, 2,438 in Taoyuan City, 1,805 in Kaohsiung City, 1,345 in Tainan City, 828 in Changhua County, 658 in Hsinchu County, 649 in Miaoli County, 643 in Hsinchu City, 574 in Pingtung County, 536 in Yilan County, 466 in Yunlin County, 432 in Keelung City, 383 in Nantou County, 361 in Hualien County, 330 in Chiayi County, 204 in Taitung County, 192 in Chiayi City, 135 in Penghu County, 124 in Kinmen County, and eight in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 26 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 14 men and 12 women ranging in age from 50 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 260 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between July 23 and August 20, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 15,714,088 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 10,663,313. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 5,043,275 cases. Of the 5,043,275 confirmed cases, 25,069 are imported; 5,018,152 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 9,634 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 9,634 deaths, 9,618 are from domestic cases and the other 16 are from imported cases.
