On July 31, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 14 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 14 new cases, 12 are domestic and the other two are imported. The CECC reported two deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 12 domestic cases (of which, 6 tested positive while they were in home isolation or completed their isolation period), seven are men and the other five are women, aged between under 5 to 69 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between July 23 and July 31, 2021. Regarding those domestic cases, New Taipei City reported the most cases at 6, Taipei City had the second highest number, at 4. Taoyuan City and Taichung City reported one case each.

Regarding the two deaths announced today, Case#13058 is an over 70-year-old male with chronic disease; Case#15732 is an over 60-year-old male with chronic disease.

Regarding the two new imported cases, Case #15786 is a Taiwanese male in his 40s. He returned to Taiwan from India on July 10. He was tested for COVID-19 upon arrival and at the end of his quarantine period, and the test results were negative. As he planned to leave Taiwan, he took a self-paid test on July 31. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 1.

Case #15794 is a Taiwanese man in his 30s. He returned to Taiwan from Mexico on July 21. He was tested for COVID-19 at the airport, and the test result was negative. He developed a headache and other symptoms on July 28. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 1.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,063,516 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,046,258. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,688 cases. Of the 15,688 confirmed cases, 1,269 are imported; 14,366 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 108 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 789 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 789 deaths, 781 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
