Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) signs MOU with Academia Sinica

At the fifth meeting held by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on May 8, 2009, the commanding officer of CECC, Minister of Health Yeh, said that as the global influenza A (H1N1) epidemic declines, countries around the world, including Taiwan, are prepared to lower pandemic alert level and getting ready for the occurrence of secondary epidemic.Besides continuing to monitor the epidemic closely, Taiwan has been formulating and implementing relevant measures for responding to the epidemic situation promptly.

On May 8, 2009, the commanding officer of CECC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Dr. Chi-Huey Wong, the President of the Academia Sinica, for collaboration on influenza A (H1N1) prevention.Under this MOU, scholars from the Academia Sinica provide their expertise in various fields, including epidemiology, virology, vaccine and pharmaceutical research, and computer simulation, and provide on-site assistance by stationing at CECC when necessary, while CECC provides epidemic information and biomaterials.

Since the announcement of influenza A (H1N1) outbreaks in the United States and Mexico on April 25, 2009, the number of inquiries concerning the outbreaks made by the general public had multiplied.More than 1000 calls were received on April 29, 2009, which is the following day that CECC was established, and May 2, 2009, which is the day that the passengers on flight MU505 were being traced.The number of calls has been declining afterwards.Most inquiries were made concerning basic information about the disease, border quarantine, and facemasks.
