CECC confirms 4 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases arrive in the Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, and the US

On December 25, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced four new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those four new cases, Cases #778-781, arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, and the United States.

Case #778 is an over 30-year-old female migrant worker from the Philippines. The female migrant worker traveled to Taiwan on December 10. She hasn't developed any symptoms since arrival. She was tested for COVID-19 on December 23 before completing the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 25.

Case #779 is an over 40-year-old female from Indonesia. The Indonesian woman visited Taiwan on December 16. After entry, she stayed at a quarantine hotel to undergo quarantine. During the quarantine period, the Indonesian woman experienced nasal congestion, coughing and other symptoms. After she notified the health authority of her symptoms, the health authority then arranged for her to seek medical care and to undergo COVID-19 testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 25.

Case #780 is a Taiwanese man in his 50s. The Taiwanese man traveled to Pakistan on November 18 and began to experience coughing on December 14 in Pakistan. He returned to Taiwan on December 23. The man voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers of his symptoms upon arrival and had his specimen collected. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 25.

Case #781 is a Taiwanese man in his 40s. He worked in the United States for an extended period of time and returned to Taiwan on December 20. After entry, the man stayed at home to undergo quarantine. During the quarantine period, he began to experience fatigue, a runny nose, a fever, and other symptoms. The health authority then arranged for him to seek medical attention and to undergo COVID-19 testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 25.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 122,555 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 120,245. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 780 cases. Of the 780 confirmed cases, 685 are imported; 56 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 640 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 133 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
