On January 26, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced one new confirmed imported case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The new case, Case #891, is a Taiwanese man in his 40s. He returned to Taiwan from Mexico.

The CECC pointed out that the Taiwanese man tested positive for COVID-19 in Mexico on January 6. The man was isolated in a hotel and hospital in Mexico. Because he needed to travel back to Taiwan for medical care, he applied to return to Taiwan on an international air ambulance, and his application was approved. After arriving in Taiwan on January 24, he was admitted to the hospital in an isolation ward and was tested for COVID-19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 26.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 147,090 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 143,940. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 890 cases. Of the 890 confirmed cases, 780 are imported; 71 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 797 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 86 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
