On January 22, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 19,187 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 19,187 new cases, 18,871 are domestic and 316 are imported. The CECC announced 27 deaths today.

Regarding the 18,871 new domestic cases, 8,638 are male and 10,222 are female, while the gender of the other eleven cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 4,054 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,243 in Taoyuan City, 2,153 in Taichung City, 2,140 in Kaohsiung City, 1,991 in Taipei City, 1,546 in Tainan City, 738 in Changhua County, 577 in Hsinchu County, 557 in Hsinchu City, 491 in Miaoli County, 397 in Pingtung County, 375 in Keelung City, 317 in Yunlin County, 256 in Yilan County, 244 in Nantou County, 215 in Chiayi County, 196 in Hualien County, 170 in Chiayi City, 85 in Taitung County, 81 in Kinmen County, 40 in Penghu County, and five in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 27 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 17 men and 10 women ranging in age from 40 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 316 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between December 22, 2022, and January 21, 2023.

The CECC reported that a total of 21,414,894 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 12,070,530. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 9,342,958 cases. Of the 9,342,958 confirmed cases, 47,088 are imported; 9,295,816 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 16,098 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 16,098 deaths, 16,078 are from domestic cases and the other 20 are from imported cases.
