Central Epidemic Command Center announces plans to procure influenza A (H1N1) vaccine

In view of the upcoming secondary epidemic of influenza A (H1N1) in the fall and winter, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) has planned to open the bidding process for procurement of the first batch of vaccine on June 1, 2009.The bid document is available on the Procurement Information System website (Bid Number:LE098018). The winner of this bid, regardless of the nationality of the bidder, would be obligated to provide 2.5 million doses of approved vaccine by the end of September. The bid document will be available for public viewing for five days.Afterwards, the bid will be officially promulgated.It is proposed that the purchase can be made by the end of June.On the other hand, CECC also indicated that the bidding process for procurement of the second batch of influenza A (H1N1) vaccine will be opened soon.Pursuant to President of the Executive Yuan Liu’s instructions during the second meeting held by CECC on April 30, 2009, the government will purchase approved vaccine at a reasonable price for use by the people in Taiwan.Further, the funding for the vaccine purchase has been discussed during a meeting for influenza A (H1N1) control and prevention held by the Executive Yuan on May 26, 2009.It is known that about 20 over countries around the world, including, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Hong Kong and 14 countries in the European Union, have proceeded with the purchase of influenza A (H1N1) vaccine.
