On May 19, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 275 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 275 new cases, 267 are indigenous and the other eight are imported.

The CECC pointed out that of the 267 indigenous cases, 127 are men and the other 140 are women ranging in ages from under 5 to 89 years old. They began to develop symptoms/were tested between April 30 and May 18. Of 267 individuals, 129 reside in New Taipei City (26 in Zhonghe District); 70 in Taipei City (31 in Wanhua District); 28 in Changhua County; 16 in Taoyuan City; 8 in Kaohsiung City; 5 in Taichung City; 4 in Keelung City; 3 in Yilan County; 2 each in Tainan City and Hsinchu City.

The CECC also confirmed eight new imported cases today. Of the eight new imported cases, five arrived in Taiwan from India; two traveled from the Philippines, and one arrived from Japan.

Case #2358 is a Taiwanese man in his 20s. He arrived in Taiwan from Japan on April 25. He visited the hospital to take a self-paid test on May 17. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 19.

Case #2359 and Case #2538 are an over 20-year-old male migrant worker and an over 40-year-old female migrant worker, who are from the Philippines. The two Filipino migrant workers took self-paid tests after completing the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on May 19.

Cases #2533-2537 are all Taiwanese nationals. Three of them are male while the other two are female, ranging in ages from under 5 to 49 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from India between May 17 and May 18. After arrival, they were tested for COVID-19 at group quarantine facilities. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on May 19.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 279,650 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 253,155. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 2,533 cases. Of the 2,533 confirmed cases, 1,094 are imported; 1,386 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated; and 5 cases (Case #530, Case #1589, Case #1676, Case #1591 and Case #1886) have been removed (Case #530, Case #1589, Case #1676, Case #1591 and Case #1886 are not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 14 deaths, and 1,133 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 1,386 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
