CECC confirms 4 more imported cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from Slovakia, Indonesia and the Philippines

On April 21, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced four new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those four new cases arrived in Taiwan from Slovakia (Case #1080), Indonesia (Case #1081) and the Philippines (Case #1082, Case #1083).

Case #1080 is a Taiwanese male in his 40s. He worked in Slovakia for an extended period of time and was diagnosed with COVID-19 in the country in March. He returned to Taiwan on April 4. After completing the quarantine period, he visited the hospital to take a self-paid COVID-19 test on April 19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 21.

Case #1081 is an over 40-year-old man from Indonesia. The Indonesian man traveled to Taiwan for studies on April 3. He was tested for COVID-19 on April 19 after completing the quarantine period; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 21.

Case #1082 is an over 20-year-old female from the Philippines. The Filipina traveled to Taiwan for work on April 6. She was tested for COVID-19 on April 19, before completing the quarantine period; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 21.

Case #1083 is an over 20-year-old female migrant worker from the Philippines. The female migrant worker traveled to Taiwan for work on March 17. She was tested for COVID-19 on March 30, before completing the quarantine period, and she tested negative. Due to work requirements, she visited the hospital to take a self-paid test on April 19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 21 (the CT value was 33, and she tested negative for IgM and positive for IgG antibodies).

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 200,225 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 198,460. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1082 cases. Of the 1082 confirmed cases, 964 are imported; 77 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 11 deaths, and 1038 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 33 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
