On August 13, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 18 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 18 new cases, four are domestic and the other 14 are imported. The CECC reported two deaths today.
The CECC pointed out that of the four domestic cases (of whom, three tested positive while they in home isolation or completed their isolation period), two are male and the other two are female, aged between 20 to 59 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between August 7 and August 9, 2021. Of those domestic cases, two cases each were reported in Taipei City and Kaohsiung City.
Regarding the two deaths announced today, they were an over 80-year-old male and an over 60-year-old male. Both had chronic diseases and no history of contact with other confirmed cases.
Regarding the 14 new imported cases, they are seven men and seven women, aged between 20 to 69 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from the United Arab Emirates (Dubai), the United States (six cases), Cambodia (2 cases), China, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, and Thailand. They arrived between July 30 and August 11.
The CECC reported that a total of 2,309,241 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,292,428. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,836 cases. Of the 15,836 confirmed cases, 1,319 are imported; 14,464 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases (including two newly added) have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 819 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 819 deaths, 811 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
