The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) asked Gallup Market Research Corp. to conduct an H1N1 awareness survey during November 24 and November 25, 2009.Survey participants include people aged 18 and above in Taiwan who know or have heard of pandemic influenza A (H1N1).The result shows that more people in Taiwan have a better overall knowledge about pandemic influenza A (H1N1). More than 90% of Taiwan’s population has correct concept on pandemic influenza A (H1N1) prevention. 70% of the population is willing to receive the pandemic influenza A (H1N1) vaccine, which is 12% higher than the result from the previous poll. Among them, 75% is willing to receive the vaccine regardless ofthe brand of the vaccine, 12% is only willing to receive the foreign vaccine and 11% is only willing to receive the domestically produced vaccine. The poll shows the public’s confidence in both the domestically produced vaccine and the foreign vaccine.
However, the poll also shows that about 40% of the population mistakenly thinks the mortality rate for pandemic influenza A (H1N1) is the same as that for SARS.30% of the people who are not willing to receive the pandemic influenza A (H1N1) vaccine are primarily concerned about the vaccine side effects. To clarify any misunderstandings, CECC will continue to promote correct knowledge about pandemic influenza A (H1N1) and correct information about vaccine side effects and adverse reactions.
On the other hand, the level of public satisfaction with the government policy on pandemic influenza A (H1N1) prevention reaches 86% and the level of public confidence in the government’s future formulation and promotion of pandemic influenza A (H1N1) prevention policy reaches 84%, which are both higher than the result from the previous poll.
The sample size for this survey is 1152 people. At 95% confidence level, the sampling error is ±3%.
