On September 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The three new cases are all Taiwanese nationals. They are an over 40-year-old female (Case #501), an over 20-year-old female (Case #502), and an over 30-year-old male (Case #503).

Case #501 visited Myanmar for work in February. She showed no symptoms when returning to Taiwan on September 13. The case informed quarantine officers that she had dined at the same table as a confirmed case in Myanmar. Airport quarantine officers then arranged her COVID-19 testing, and the case was taken to a group quarantine facility. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 17. The case is currently hospitalized in isolation for medical treatment.

Case #502 traveled to the United Kingdom for work in February of 2019. The case didn't have symptoms when returning to Taiwan on September 6. The case underwent quarantine at a quarantine hotel after entry. During the quarantine period, she developed symptoms, including a sore throat, a runny nose, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. After she notified health authorities of her symptoms, health authorities arranged her medical care and COVID-19 testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 17. The case is currently hospitalized in isolation for medical treatment.

Case #503 visited the Philippines for work in March. The case took the same flight back to Taiwan as Case #500 on September 13, but he didn't sit within two rows in front of or behind Case #500. He voluntarily reported his symptoms to airport quarantine officers upon arrival. The case was taken to a group quarantine facility after quarantine officers collected specimen from him. His first test result came back negative. However, his symptoms persisted. Quarantine facility personnel then arranged his COVID-19 testing on September 16. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 17. The case is currently hospitalized in isolation for medical treatment.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 90,431 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 89,248. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 503 cases. Of 503 confirmed cases in Taiwan, 411 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; and 1 case has unknown sources of infection. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 478 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 18 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
