On November 15, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those two cases (Case #602 and Case #603) arrived in Taiwan from Japan and the United States.

The CECC pointed out that Case #602 is a Taiwanese woman in her 40s. She lived in Japan for an extended period of time (her most recent departure from Taiwan was February). The Taiwanese woman developed nasal congestion, nausea, a runny nose, a headache, and an abnormal sense of smell and taste in early November while in Japan. As her symptoms subsided after she took medication by herself, she didn't seek medical attention. The Taiwanese woman returned to Taiwan with her two other family members to visit relatives on November 12. She voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers of her symptoms upon arrival. After she had her specimen collected upon arrival, she stayed at a group quarantine facility. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 15.

Regarding Case #603, the CECC pointed out that the case is a Taiwanese woman in her 30s. She lived in the United States for a prolonged period of time due to work (her most recent departure from Taiwan was August). The woman returned to Taiwan with her family members on November 13. Upon arrival, she notified airport quarantine officers that she had experienced an abnormal sense of smell and taste during the flight but her symptom disappeared after disembarkation. After she had her specimen collected upon arrival, she stayed at a group quarantine facility. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 15.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 105,589 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 104,108. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 602 cases. Of the 602 confirmed cases, 510 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case#530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 536 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 59 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
