According to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), WHO has reported 898 confirmed cases with 20 deaths in 18 countries including the United States, Mexico, Austria, Canada, Hong Kong, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
As of noon on May 4, 2009, a total of 55 suspected cases have been reported in Taiwan.While, novel influenza A (H1N1) have been eliminated in 39 cases and 16 cases are still awaiting result.According to the revised pandemic alert level, Taiwan’s current phase of pandemic alert is 1 because no domestic confirmed case has occurred in Taiwan yet.
According to the border disease surveillance statistics, a total of 41705 passengers entered Taiwan on May 3, 2009.A total of 45 passengers were detected with a fever at the airport while one of them returned from Mexico with a slightly high temperature.The said passenger has been arranged to seek medical care with the help of the authority.
The World Health Organization has planned to hold a teleconference, inviting all major vaccine manufactures, to discuss responsive strategies for influenza A (H1N1) vaccine at 7pm in Taiwan on May 3, 2009.The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) has also been notified to participate in the teleconference.In addition, Taiwan CDC has invited representatives from ADImmune Corporation, the National Health Research Institutes, and the Taiwan Bio Industry Organization to attend the teleconference.
On the other hand, a total of 73 travelers who went on a U.S. and Mexico cruise will arrive in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport tonight. They will be transiting through Osaka International Airport in the afternoon.The Japanese government has been notified about their arrival by Taiwan CDC through the National IHR Focal Point. All 73 travelers do not display influenza-like symptoms and have not had any contact with a confirmed case of influenza A (H1N1).Therefore, the Japanese government will inspect those travelers according to the standard operating procedures and will notify Taiwan if there are any changes.
