CECC confirms 79,487 more COVID-19 cases, including 79,441 domestic cases and 46 imported cases

On May 22, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 79,487 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 79,487 new cases, 79,441 are domestic and 46 are imported (26 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced 53 deaths today.

Regarding the 79,441 new domestic cases, 38,290 are male and 41,097 are female, while the gender of the other 54 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 20,698 were reported in New Taipei City, 11,168 in Taoyuan City, 9,645 in Taipei City, 7,250 in Taichung City, 7,135 in Kaohsiung City, 4,678 in Tainan City, 2,358 in Changhua County, 2,328 in Hsinchu County, 2,256 in Pingtung County, 1,799 in Keelung City, 1,778 in Yilan County, 1,636 in Miaoli County, 1,613 in Hsinchu City, 1,096 in Hualien County, 953 in Nantou County, 916 in Yunlin County, 760 in Chiayi County, 565 in Taitung County, 431 in Chiayi City, 165 in Penghu County, 139 in Kinmen County, and 74 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 53 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 23 men and 30 women ranging in age from 40 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 46 new imported cases, 21 are male and 24 are female, while the gender of the other one is under investigation. They range in age from 20 to 79 years. Of the cases, two arrived from the US and one each from Korea and Japan; the areas the remaining 42 cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between May 19 and 21, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 10,270,540 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,946,704. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1,320,371 cases. Of the 1,320,371 confirmed cases, 12,523 are imported; 1,307,794 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 1,396 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 1,396 deaths, 1,381 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
