On December 18, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those two new cases, Case #759 and Case #760, arrived in Taiwan from the United States.

Case #759 is a Taiwanese woman in her 50s and a family member of Case #752 announced on December 17. The two individuals traveled back to Taiwan from the United States together to visit relatives on November 30. After entering Taiwan on December 2, the woman stayed at home to undergo quarantine. Because Case #752 was diagnosed with COVID-19, the woman was identified as a close contact. Further investigation found that she began to experience an itchy throat and a productive cough on December 4. Thus, arrangements were made for the woman to seek medical care and to be tested for COVID-19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 18.

Case #760 is a Taiwanese woman in her 30s. She traveled to the United States for work on December 12 and returned to Taiwan on December 16. During the home quarantine period, she experienced a cough, a fever, and other symptoms. Thus, the health authority then arranged for her to seek medical attention and to be tested for COVID-19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on December 18.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 118,585 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 116,300. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 759 cases. Of the 759 confirmed cases, 667 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 619 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 133 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
