CECC confirms 18,066 more COVID-19 cases, including 17,949 domestic cases and 117 imported cases

On December 24, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 18,066 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 18,066 new cases, 17,949 are domestic and 117 are imported. The CECC announced 36 deaths today.

Regarding the 17,949 new domestic cases, 8,102 are male and 9,828 are female, while the gender of the other 19 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 3,533 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,240 in Taichung City, 2,062 in Taoyuan City, 1,994 in Taipei City, 1,852 in Kaohsiung City, 1,420 in Tainan City, 870 in Changhua County, 635 in Hsinchu County, 560 in Hsinchu City, 427 in Miaoli County, 397 in Pingtung County, 316 in Yunlin County, 303 in Nantou County, 281 in Yilan County, 265 in Chiayi County, 243 in Keelung City, 172 in Hualien County, 159 in Chiayi City, 93 in Kinmen County, 82 in Taitung County, 44 in Penghu County, and one in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 36 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 20 men and 16 women ranging in age from 40 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 117 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between November 23 and December 22, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 20,579,323 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,896,721. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 8,681,672 cases. Of the 8,681,672 confirmed cases, 39,364 are imported; 8,642,254 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 15,075 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 15,075 deaths, 15,058 are from domestic cases and the other 17 are from imported cases.
