On August 5, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 21,869 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 21,869 new cases, 21,577 are domestic and 292 are imported. The CECC announced 54 deaths today.

Regarding the 21,577 new domestic cases, 9,944 are male and 11,610 are female, while the gender of the other 23 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 4,007 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,623 in Taichung City, 2,351 in Taipei City, 2,280 in Taoyuan City, 2,034 in Kaohsiung City, 1,683 in Tainan City, 990 in Changhua County, 615 in Miaoli County, 605 in Hsinchu County, 584 in Pingtung County, 545 in Yunlin County, 509 in Hsinchu City, 484 in Yilan County, 416 in Hualien County, 377 in Nantou County, 361 in Chiayi County, 330 in Keelung City, 267 in Chiayi City, 227 in Taitung County, 144 in Kinmen County, 135 in Penghu County, and 10 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 54 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 27 men and 27 women ranging in age from 40 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 292 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between July 5 and August 4, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 15,046,661 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 10,342,775. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 4,696,969 cases. Of the 4,696,969 confirmed cases, 21,274 are imported; 4,675,641 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 9,136 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 9,136 deaths, 9,121 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
