Second wave of H1N1 virus activity in Taiwan comes to an end

The 43rd meeting held by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) was convened by the commander-in-chief of CECC, the Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan, Li-Luan Chu on February 23, 2010.At the meeting, Vice Premier Chu indicated that the second wave of H1N1 virus activity in Taiwan has come to an end under close surveillance on national epidemic situation and strict implementation of relevant disease control policies.

In addition, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recent decision to include the pandemic influenza A (H1N1) virus in the composition of the 2010 northern hemisphere influenza vaccine and calling of an expert meeting on February 23, 2010 both signaled the peak of the H1N1 pandemic has come to a close.Further, according to the surveillance data collected by the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC), no new local outbreak of H1N1 infection has occurred during the Chinese New Year Holiday, which shows that the implementation of relevant disease control policies has effectively stopped the spread of the virus.
