On July 1, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 50 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 50 new cases, 47 are indigenous, and the other three are imported. The CECC also announced 13 deaths today.
The CECC pointed out that of the 47 indigenous cases, 22 are men and the other 25 are women, aged between under 5 to 99 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between June 22 and June 30, 2021. Regarding those indigenous cases, New Taipei City reported most cases, at 20, and Taipei City had the second highest number, at 18. Taoyuan City reported 5 cases; Kaohsiung City reported 2 cases, and Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County reported 1 case each.
Regarding the 13 deaths announced today, they were seven men and six women between 50 and 89 years old.
Regarding the three imported cases, Case #14926 and Case #14927 are two male fishermen from Indonesia, and they are in their 30s and 20s, respectively. They traveled to Taiwan on June 16. The two fishermen were tested for COVID-19 on June 29 before completing their quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on July 1.
Case #14941 is an over 30-year-old male fisherman from the Philippines. The Filipino fisherman traveled to Taiwan from his home country on May 13. Before the end of his quarantine period, he was tested for COVID-19 on May 27, and he tested negative. He boarded the vessel on May 29 after completing his quarantine period. He was placed in isolation in a quarantine hotel on June 16 after a fisherman on the vessel where he worked was diagnosed with COVID-19. He was tested for COVID-19 on June 29 before the end of his isolation period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 1.
The CECC reported that a total of 1,379,630 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 1,363,405. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 14,853 cases. Of the 14,853 confirmed cases, 1,175 are imported; 13,625 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 103 cases (including one newly added) have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 661 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 661 deaths, 653 are indigenous cases and the other 8 are imported.
