CECC confirms 3,058 more COVID-19 cases, including 2,969 domestic cases and 89 imported cases

On April 21, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 3,058 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 3,058 new cases, 2,969 are domestic and 89 are imported (78 of them tested positive after landing). The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the 2,969 new domestic cases, 1,458 are male and 1,510 are female while the gender of the other one is still under investigation. They range in age from under five to 99 years. They suffered the onset of symptoms between March 13 and April 21, while 1,549 of them didn't develop symptoms. Of those domestic cases, 1,000 were reported in New Taipei City, 663 in Taipei City, 414 in Taoyuan City, 216 in Keelung City, 139 in Taichung City, 92 in Hualien County, 82 in Kaohsiung City, 80 in Yilan County, 42 in Yunlin County, 38 in Hsinchu County, 37 in Changhua County, 34 each in Hsinchu City and Tainan City, 32 in Pingtung County, 22 in Taitung County, 19 in Miaoli County, 10 in Nantou County, 6 in Chiayi City, five in Chiayi County, and two each in Penghu County and Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 89 new imported cases, they are 36 men and 53 women ranging in age from under ten to 69 years. Of the cases, five arrived from Vietnam, two from the Philippines, and one each from Canada, the US, Indonesia, and Japan; the areas the remaining 78 cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 20 and April 20, 2022.

Additionally, domestic cases#38117 and #40265 announced on April 20 have been reclassified as imported cases after epidemiological investigations found that they had arrived from Malaysia and Palau.

The CECC reported that a total of 7,892,915 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 7,849,302. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 43,243 cases. Of the 43,243 confirmed cases, 10,076 are imported; 33,113 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 204 cases (one newly added; the domestic case was removed after an epidemiological investigation found the case tested negative) have been removed as confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 856 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 856 deaths, 842 are from domestic cases and the other 14 are from imported cases.
